While summer sunshine or Christmas magic rank high on many people’s lists of vacation ideas when visiting Italy, Autumn can be an amazing time to visit the country. Here’s our top reasons to experience Italy in the autumn months, and you can do it all with Messenger Travel – just contact us and we will help you plan the perfect autumn trip.
Pleasant Temperatures
During the popular summer months, Italy is beautiful in the sunshine, though the sweltering summer heat can make even the most glorious cities difficult to enjoy. In September to November, the sun is still shining and the temperature drops to much more pleasant temperatures. It’s still warm enough to stroll around without a coat, but not so warm that will send you looking for the slightest patch of shade or an air-conditioned cafe.
This also makes all tours and activities much more bearable than in a sticky summer heat, and we can help you organise anything that you wish to do or see.
Harvest Festivals
Autumn is harvest time in Italy, especially in the rural areas. The grapes are brought from the vines for wine making, the olives are plucked from the trees to be prepared into oil, and chestnuts are picked for winter dishes.
At this time, even the smallest of towns hold traditional festivals to celebrate the harvest, with food, wine and processions galore. To take part in one of these days is to experience Italy and it’s culture at it’s most local and traditional. Visit Torino for the mushrooms, Piacenza for chestnuts, Tuscany for olives and Gubbio for truffles, among many others. For any help booking travel to these, or anywhere in Italy, simply contact us.
Less Crowds
From June to early September, the streets of Rome and Venice can be thronged with travellers and locals, but in Autumn, the crowds calm down and the monuments and churches become much more accessible. While in the height of summer you may be surrounded by large tour groups blocking your path, in October the piazzas and museums across Italy seem much more spacious, and thus even more magnificent. Anyone who isn’t keen on crowds and packed streets would find Italy much more pleasant in the Autumn.
Beautiful Colours
For nature lovers, photography enthusiasts, and anybody who loves beautiful sights, Italy is an amazing place to visit in the autumn. The vast mix of fauna creates a dazzling array of colours, which perfectly complement the architecture of buildings large and small, as well as the stunning natural scenery in the country’s rural landscapes.
